Singer/songwriter Jim Post died last week at 82 years old. Nationally, he’s known as the writer, and original performer of the 1968 song Reach Out of the Darkness, often known as Groovy. National reporters are calling Post a one-hit-wonder. They don’t live in Illinois.

Post went on to have a solid career in Chicago and Galena. I saw him a few times in the late 1970s when I was too young to get into a bar but old enough to get into Evanston’s Amazing Grace concert hall, old enough for WTTW studios, and I could occasionally get…
