More of the Real-Life Adventures of Ellen as a Democrat — Shadows of 1983 Election Nullification Efforts in the 2020 Iowa Caucuses
I was born and raised a Democrat, full FDR/JFK Democrat. When I was 9 years old in 1968, I helped Hubert Humphrey become win the presidency, at least at Cleveland Elementary School.
When I was 24 years old in 1983, I was a law clerk waiting in line at the Cook County Office of the Recorder of Deeds. Harold Washington just won the City of Chicago election to become the first African American mayor of Chicago. While in line, I saw and heard several white county office workers talking about the election the night before. They said, not to worry, they were going to make sure Washington never took office. Of course, it was just racist bluster. Washington went on to take office and become one of Chicago’s historically better mayors, but I never forgot.
The incident stuck in the back of my mind and rose to the surface again in 2016 as I watched Hillary Clinton and the Democratic elite from the top through the local party offices play dirty tricks on Bernie Sanders and Sanders supporters.
Now, I’m thinking about this again due to the despicable behavior of the Democratic establishment in the Iowa Caucuses. Results are still not available. We’re told a nameless candidate (Joe Biden) has asked for the results to be held because there were irregularities (he didn’t win).
Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg took advantage of the vacuum and declared victory.
This all comes on the heels of smears against Bernie Sanders by party notables, Hillary Clinton and my old ex-pal John Kerry.
Similar to the 1983 Cook County Office racists against Harold Washington, these four people are despicable and the only difference between Klobuchar, Buttigieg, Clinton and Kerry and the 1983 anti-Harold Washington racists is that the former have real power to destroy our ability to have a true and honest election. These four are contributing to the banana republicazation of the USA. Maybe Democratic Progressives need a third party. In any event, a Sanders/Warren coalition should act to neutralize the dirty dealings of these bad actors.
