Notes from the Zombie Apocalypse: A National, No a World Project, Highlighted by Actor, Vanessa Hudgens
--
I don’t know why so many people are mad at Vanessa Hudgens when she only said what so many world leaders had already done. Hudgens, a 31-year old actor, said:
Yeah, til July sounds like a bunch of bulls — , I’m sorry. It’s a virus, I get it. I respect it. But at the same time, like, even if everybody gets it — like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible. But, like, inevitable? I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.
What’s so very different about Hudgens’ comments from the UK’s initial response, “herd immunity.” For starters, Brits were thought of, by their leaders, basically, as cows. The idea of herd immunity is to let the disease run its course, kill who its going to kill, and everyone else will be all the better for it. As an acquaintance gleefully put it last week before she realized she was in a risk group, “survival of the fittest!”
There is a bit of logic behind herd immunity. People won’t follow the rules anyway and there is a chance COVID-19 could burn itself out completely rather than show its ugly face again next year.
Back in the good olde US of A, we’re not even cows. We’re less than cows. At least someone cares about the cows, if only for their profitability. But no. Americans don’t get the luxury of being cows. We’re sheep, consumers of lies and propaganda. The Trump Administration, powerful Republicans in Congress, and Fox “News” hosts decided to tell us the whole thing was a hoax. They wanted a new talking point about the evil Democratic Deep State for the 2020 general election and really didn’t care who died for it.
You can still see their supporters claiming the whole thing is a hoax. Until thousands of people die in front of them, they won’t believe there is a deadly pandemic because Trump & Co. planted the seed and never strongly pulled it back and apologized. Those folks are currently crowding Florida beaches. The Republican governor of Florida is still acting like the worldwide pandemic is a hoax, refusing to close those beaches. Most of California, New York and Illinois are closed.
Japan’s leaders weren’t much better. They want to save Japan the embarrassment of its own COVID-19 cases. I used to work for a Japanese company and know that they hate to be lumped in with China and South Korea on anything. Attempting to save face, their leaders…
