The USA recently buried H.W. Bush to long tirades about how great and likeable he was. Was he most likeable when he obstructed justice for Spiro Agnew, when he used the CIA to impose dictatorships throughout South and Central America, when he planned Iran/Contra or when he lied us into Gulf War #1? W. Bush was deemed even more likeable than his dad. He likeably abdicated his role as President to Dick Cheney who likeably got us into two wars that benefitted his company. Reagan was deemed likeable. He lied about minorities and urban areas to build up a base of racists in the Republican party that Trump has now harnessed. Reagan also implemented trickle down economics and we’re still waiting for all those riches to trickle down to us. Reagan removed the mental health safety net and put mentally ill people on the streets. Bill Clinton was deemed likeable. He continued trickle down economics, moved the Democratic party to the right until they resembled the party of Reagan and pushed Republicans so far to the right they resemble Nazi Germany. Clinton also gutted welfare programs and increased homelessness. While a lot of people do not like Trump, a lot do. They say they liked his straight talking even if it is a bunch of lies said loudly and forcefully. I think we need to take a long hard look at what we deem likeable.
