You’re Leaving Your Kids in the Dark, Literally

When I was in high school in the 1970s in the Chicago suburbs, the USA tried 365 daylight savings time. They said it was to save energy.

All the neighborhood kids stood at the bus stop in the cold dark night singing words from an old (new then) John Denver song: “It’s 5 o’clock this morning and the sun is on the rise...”

Except it wasn’t.

It wasn’t 5am and the sun wasn’t on the rise. It was around 7:15am-ish and it was really dark.
